What you get out of it

    • Less scrap and rework

    • Shorter investigations

    • Losses you can prioritise

    • Evidence the customer can trust

    How it fits together

The system provides the context. People make the decisions.

From what happens at the machine to the decision that improves the process, and back. You measure once and use the value wherever it is needed, without copying it by hand.

      Action and follow-up

The action is taken in the plant. The effect shows in the next measurement, in the same system.

The picture as text: sources, functions and roles

Data from machines, measuring equipment, stations and ERP systems ends up in the same context in Rektron Eyesight: part, order, characteristic, machine, operator and time. There it becomes inspections, trends, deviations and reports that people base decisions on. The action is taken in the plant, and the effect shows in the next measurement.

    Where the information comes from

    • Machines and PLCs: Status, stops, cycles and process values.
    • CMM and vision: Measured results per characteristic.

    • At the station: Inspections, checklists and notes.
    • ERP system: Parts and orders.
    • Files and other systems: AQDEF, DMIS, CSV, database, OPC, API.

    Who decides, and what

    • Operator: Is the part OK? Should I adjust? The decision: adjusts or changes the tool.
    • Quality: Is the process stable and within spec? The decision: quarantines, investigates, replies.
    • Production: Where do we lose time? What comes first? The decision: prioritises stop reasons.
    • Engineering: What changed? Update the standard? The decision: changes the instruction or standard.
    • Management: What keeps recurring and matters enough? The decision: prioritises improvements.

What you can do with Eyesight

Four everyday questions, answered with the same data

Rektron Eyesight is a cloud service on Microsoft Azure. The functions share the same data, so a measurement always carries its order, machine and history with it.

    01 · At the station

The value against the requirement, while the part is still there

The inspection is done at the machine, and the value is compared at once with the nominal value and limits. Whoever measures sees the result straight away.

    The question

    Is the part OK?

    Length48.00 ± 0.1048.08LOWERNOMINALUPPER
    • Diameter 12.50 ± 0.0512.51 · within
    • Flatness ≤ 0.050.02 · within

    Part A-114Order 4711Operator09:42

The answerYes. But the length is close to the upper limit, so the next measurement is worth watching.

02 · The process over time

See the process change before it goes wrong

Control charts and Cp/Cpk per characteristic show when the mean shifts or the spread increases. You see the change before it becomes scrap.

    The question

    Is the process changing?

Band = tolerance limits · point = weekly mean · bar = spread

The answerYes, from week 7: the mean shifts upwards and the spread increases. All parts are still OK.

    03 · Production now

What the machines are doing, and where the time goes

Machine status, stops and reasons, cycle times and counts per machine, part and order. You see where the time disappears, what to fix first and whether the action had an effect.

    The question

    Which machine needs attention?

    • M1

      Running

      Order 4710

    • M2

      Stopped · 14 min

No reason given · order 4711 waiting

    • M3

      Changeover

      Planned, for order 4712

    • M4

      Running

      Order 4708

Stop time per reason, last four weeks

    • Unknown reason55 min
    • Material change42 min
    • Waiting for setter31 min
    • Tool change18 min

The answerM2, which is stopped with no reason given. Unknown reason is also the biggest loss in recent weeks.

    04 · Analysis and report

Investigate the relationships, and show the evidence

Process values from the machine can be compared with measurements on the same serial number, and the data is produced as a report per order.

    The question

Is the mould temperature related to the diameter?

    Mould temperatureDiameter

    • Part
    • Order
    • Characteristics and results
    • Who measured and when

To show colleagues, the customer or the supplier.

The answerThere is a relationship worth investigating further. A relationship is not proof of cause.

    The direction for Eyesight

    From question to evidence, faster

The next step is AI support in analysis: asking questions of your quality and production data and getting trends, deviations and relationships to investigate, as charts and analysis views. Views and reports are also to be adaptable to role and question.

Today there is analysis with trends, histograms and correlation, and reports per order.

AI helps people investigate. People assess and make the decisions.

    Quality asks

Why is scrap increasing on part A-114?

    The evidence produced

    • Part and order

Scrap has increased over the last six orders

    • Measurements

The diameter has drifted towards the upper limit since week 7

    • Machine and process

The mould temperature is higher on M2 after the tool change

    Possible relationships to investigate

    1. 1Mould temperature on M2 and diameter · clearest relationship
    2. 2The tool change in week 7 · coincides in time

    Suggestions to investigate, not conclusions.

A person assesses. Quality and engineering review the evidence and decide to check the temperature on M2 first.

    An analysis view to share

The same evidence, adapted for colleagues, the customer or the supplier.
