    Solution

    Calibration and gauge management

A register of gauges, tools and fixtures, with calibration intervals, history and reminders.

    The problem

A measured value is never better than the gauge it comes from. But in many workshops the calibration status sits in a spreadsheet that only one person updates.

    Relevant for: Quality

    The context in production

Gauges, limit gauges, fixtures and measuring machines need to be calibrated at regular intervals and checked against tolerances. Quality management systems and customers require you to be able to show that the measuring equipment was approved when the measurement was made.

    Why it matters

A gauge that is out of calibration can accept parts that should have been scrapped, or the other way round. If it is discovered afterwards, every measurement since the last calibration may have to be questioned.

    In principle

    The calibration cycle

Calibration shows whether the gauge measures correctly and when it should be checked again. The most important question arises when a gauge turns out to be outside: what was measured with it since last time?

What happens in the calibration cycle?

    Illustration

Calibration shows whether the gauge measures correctly and when it must be checked again. The most important question arises when a gauge turns out to be out of tolerance: what was measured with it since the last time?

    Step by step

    • The gauge is in a register with interval and history.
    • It is calibrated against a reference.
    • The result is documented in a certificate with the next due date.
    • The gauge is used in production until the next calibration.
    • If it was out of tolerance you need to know which measurements may be affected.

Common challenges, and what a better way of working looks like

    What it often looks like

    • Calibration status is in Excel or binders.
    • Calibration reminders are missed.
    • Certificates and history are hard to find in an audit.
    • Wear is discovered only when the gauge fails.

    A better way of working

    • All gauges, tools and fixtures in one shared register.
    • Calibration intervals and reminders that take care of themselves.
    • Certificates, tolerances and calibration data saved per gauge.
    • Wear trends are followed, so that replacement can be planned.

    Rektron's approach

    How we help

Rektron NetGauge is a web-based gauge register and calibration system used in the browser, with no installation for the user. Calibration data and certificates are linked to each gauge, and lists of gauges due for calibration are sent automatically.

Gauge register and calibration are also available as a module in Eyesight, Eyesight Calibration, with calibrations, reminders, certificates and documents.

    The flow

    How it works

    1. 01

      Register

Gauges, tools and fixtures are entered with intervals and tolerances.

    2. 02

      Remind

Lists of upcoming calibrations are sent out automatically.

    3. 03

      Calibrate

Results and certificates are saved on the gauge.

    4. 04

      Follow

Wear and history show over time.

    What changes

    • Calibration status that is always up to date.
    • Certificates and history one click away in an audit.
    • Planned replacements instead of surprises.
